On Thursday May 9th from 10AM - 4PM, there will be advanced polling for the 2013 Provincial Election set up in the Students' Union Building! No matter which riding across the province you are voting in you can cast a ballot at this location! In order to ensure that students, staff, and faculty may continue to have a convenient polling location for future federal, provincial, and municipal elections, as a community we need to take advantage of this opportunity in significant numbers! Each year the TRUSU Pride Collective hosts an Annual Pride Parade! The Parade is both fun and serious. It's an opportunity for LGBTQ students and their friends, families and aliies to celebrate identity and diversity. It's also an opportunity to raise awareness of the discrimination and predjudice many students still face. The Parade includes an resource fair of on campus and community groups, a march around campus, and a social and celebration! Come on out and celebrate diversity and let your colours fly with us! The TRUSU Women's Collective has launched a new campaign called "What is Consent?" The collective would like you to join them in starting a campus dialogue around what it means to consent. Drop by their table in Old Main on Wednesday March 20 from 10AM-2PM and join the conversation! What is Consent? Consent means that all parties involved within a situation, be it sexual or not, must be in agreement with whatever is done to them, with them or around them, and should not be coerced or taken advantage of. Consent is about adhering to the belief that everyone should have ownership over their own bodies, their personal spaces, and their right to make their own decisions. Consent is necessary for any sexual act. Sexual acts are not limited to sexual intercourse and include (but are not limited to) touching another person and/or sexual comments. Always ask first! The Provincial government has a huge impact on students and their families. Provincial governments set tuition fee levels, determine University funding levels, run provincial student financial aid programs, and much more. BC is heading into a provincial election on May 14th and we want to make sure that students cast a ballot and their voices are heard. Elections BC and your Students' Union will be out on campus this week getting students registered to vote and providing information about the upcoming election. If you aren't registered, need to update your information, or just want find out more about how and where you can vote, come on out! There will be a table in the TRU New Residence Building on Tuesday March 12 and in the Campus Activity Centre on Wednesday March 13.
