For the March Volunteer Registry event we will be working with Kamloops Big Brothers and Big Sisters to help with their Strikes for Tykes Fundraiser. Big Brothers and Big Sisters provides mentoring programs to foster self-esteem and competency among children and youth in the Kamloops community. We will be helping out with a Pancake Breakfast and bowling fundraiser. The funds raised at this event will help to support the programs run by Big Brothers and Big Sisters Kamloops.

Nominations for election in the TRUSU General Election open on Wednesday March 7, 2012 at 9:00am. Nomination packages can be picked up and returned at the Members' Services Desk in the Students' Union Building. The deadline to return nomination packages is Wednesday March 14th, at 3:30pm.

For International Women's Day, the TRUSU Women's Collective will be screening "Miss Representation" in the Clock Tower Theatre on March 8 at 7pm. Admission is free. Miss Representation uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. In a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, the collective message that our young women and men overwhelmingly receive is that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader. While women have made great strides in leadership over the past few decades, the United States is still 90th in the world for women in national legislatures, women hold only 3% of clout positions in mainstream media, and 65% of women and girls have disordered eating behaviors. Stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, like Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem build momentum as Miss Representation accumulates startling facts and statistics that will leave the audience shaken and armed with a new perspective.

The TRUSU Aboriginal Collective is hosting the Story Teller's Gala on March 15, 2012 from 10am - 2:30pm. The Story Teller's Gala will include workshops on Pine-Needle Basket Making, the Post-Secondary Student Support Program, complimentary lunch with performers, and a keynote speech by Pamela Palmater

The campaign period for candidates running in the 2012 TRUSU General Election opens on Thursday March 15, 2012 at 9:00am. Candidates will be campaigning to members around campus. This is a good opportunity to ask questions and find out who the candidates are.

All executive candidates nominated for elections in the 2012 TRUSU General Election will attend the All-Candidates Forum. This is an opportunity for members to ask questions of the candidates running for executive positions.

The TRU Board of Governors is holding an online election to elect their second student representative. The candidates are: Carl Archie Sadriddin Mirkhodjaev Voting will be held online at mytru.ca. Voting will close at 4:00 p.m. on April 2, 2012. All online ballots must be submitted and paper ballots received in the Registrar’s Office by the close of voting. No ballots will be accepted by the Registrar after the close of voting.
