Every student enrolled in a course at Thompson Rivers University is a member of the Students’ Union. The purpose of the Students’ Union is to ensure that current and potential members can enjoy accessible, affordable, and quality post-secondary education regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, disability, or level of income. This ambition is driven by a belief that educated citizens are better citizens, that education is a right not a commodity, and that our campus should be a place where all feel comfortable and engaged, and are afforded every opportunity to excel.

TRUSU Council members distribute the Members’ Handbook and Dayplanner.Members, such as you, are the backbone of the Students’ Union, and we all count on each other to stand and speak united for our common interests. Together we provide each other advocacy, services and entertainment. Our advocacy extends from our campus across the country. In our Students’ Union and through the Canadian Federation of Students, we can affect positive change for students at the local, provincial, and national level. Members also benefit from a pooled capacity to obtain services. We enjoy Member Handbooks, a Book Exchange Service, Income Tax Service, and Health and Dental Insurance at prices well below those paid by individual consumers. Further, we can take advantage of Travel Cuts, StudentSaver discounts, the International Student Identity Card, the Student Work Abroad Program, and more! And between studying and the other daily chores of student life members can relax and enjoy Students’ Union entertainment, such as the Kickstart BBQ, the Tunes Against Tuition Concert Series and the Common Voices Lecture Series.

Classified plays for a large crowd in the Independent Centre in 2008.To be a member is to benefit from the collective efforts of the Students’ Union as well as to contribute to them – in the end we are all better off. And remember, getting together with fellow members is fun! You can help contribute to campus life through the Students’ Union’s various clubs, by volunteering for events or committees, or by participating in the diversity of activities that the Students’ Union offers. In sum, the work of the Students’ Union is based on two ideas – There is Strength in Numbers and The More the Merrier.

The advocacy, services, and entertainment provided through our Union give us all the tools to fight for, and enjoy, the educational experiences we deserve. Membership in the Thompson Rivers University Students’ Union is membership you can be proud of!
