After the disappearance of her daughter Jessie Foster in Las Vegas, Nevada in April of 2006, Glendene Grant was determined to being justice to her daughter. Each year the TRU Students' Union brings a world-class lecturer to campus as part of our annual Common Voices Lecture Series. This series provides an opportunity for members of the campus and broader community to engage in a dialogue around relevant social issues. In the past this lecture series has included David Suzuki, Thomas Homer Dixon, and Steven Lewis.
This year the TRUSU Common Voices Lecture Series will be featuring Peter Mansbridge. As the anchor of the national and chief correspondent of CBC television news, he brings comprehension, levity and a uniquely Canadian perspective to the stories shaping our nation and the world. He will be discussing the role of Canada and Canadians internationally.
The lecture will take place in the Grand hall of the Campus Activity Centre beginning at 7pm with the doors opening at 6pm. There is no cost to attend the event and tickets will be available at the Members' Services Desk in the Independent Centre (Students' Union Building) between 8am and 4pm Monday-Friday beginning January 2nd, 2012. There is a limit of two tickets per person.

International Days have given students, faculty, and staff a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate cultures.
It is inspiring to take this opportunity to celebrate all of those countries that provide affordable post-secondary education to support rich, vibrant, and prosperous societies.
Often, our Drop Fees campaign to reduce tuition fees and increase public funding is an uphill battle. But we know affordable education is possible. Nearly 30 countries, from Argentina to Ukraine and from China to Finland, provide university access without user fees!
Canada has one of the highest GDPs per capita, yet it does not make post-secondary education a priority. Meanwhile, countries, even with less developed economies and lower GDP have made education a priority by full funding education to make it free for students from ABC to PhD.
These countries have recognized that in this day and age, higher education is needed to meet the rapidly changing demands of the international economy. Canada must do the same!
Check out the fact sheet to see all the countries that provide free post-secondary education!
