Tired of the hassle of keeping change for bus fare? Can’t afford to keep your car on the road, and need another way to get to campus? Looking for ways to reduce your impact on the environment? Want to exercise your body as well as your mind while you’re on campus? Luckily, there is one solution to all of these concerns – the TRUSU UPASS!
Because students deserve to have the opportunity to get around their city and to campus with ease, TRUSU partners with the City of Kamloops and BC Transit to negotiate and provide the UPASS program. The UPASS gets our members on the transit system without the hassle of keeping change for fares,
and is considerable cheaper than monthly bus passes, which are the next best deal. But the UPASS does more than help our members get around – it contributes to the health of our members and of the environment too. By presenting their UPASS at the Tournament Capital Centre, located at the edge of campus, Students’ Union members have access to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre free of charge and can use the gym facilities at a reduced rate. And after a great workout, we can step outside and breathe clean air, because our members can more easily use public transit instead of individual vehicles.
Getting your UPASS is easy. Every member of the Students’ Union is assessed a fee per semester for this service compared to 2 for four monthly passes – 2 in savings for
a full year of study! After you get your student card at the Campus Cashier in the Old Main building, come by our front desk in the Independent Centre with your card and Course Registration Data Form. We will put a UPASS sticker on the back of the card for easy use. If you live outside the area of transit service, there are opt-out forms available at our front desk. Upon confirming your eligibility, we will issue you a refund cheque. You must opt-out within 30 days of your program start date.
In addition to the UPASS, your Students’ Union also participates in a campaign of the Canadian Federation of Students called We Ride: Student Action for Public Transit. This campaign aims to increase the transit services available to our members and our communities, meaning that the UPASS will grant us affordable access to a better and better transit system. You can help make this campaign a success!
